Lutheran World Relief (LWR), an international organization with more than 75 years of experience and part of Corus International, is officially launching its presence in Ecuador as a new strategic development actor committed to generating sustainable and scalable impact across the country.
With a projected investment for the 2025–2029 period, the organization is advancing a strategy based on building partnerships among the public sector, private sector, and key stakeholders, promoting innovative solutions to Ecuador’s main social and productive challenges.
Through a co-design and co-investment model, LWR seeks to develop joint initiatives that respond to the real needs of local communities, strengthening areas such as rural development, employability, economic inclusion, and value chains.
Innovation and development on the ground
As part of its commitment to social innovation and economic development, Lutheran World Relief promotes digital solutions that bring opportunities, knowledge, and support directly to communities.
Among these initiatives is EmpleandoMentes, an innovation that connects mental health and employability by providing psychosocial support and guidance to strengthen safe pathways toward decent work and economic inclusion.
The organization also promotes Cacao Móvil and Café Móvil, digital training and technical assistance platforms that provide rural producers with access to information on productivity, sustainable agricultural practices, quality, and market access, including in areas with limited connectivity.
Projects generating impact
- MOCCA Project, funded by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) and implemented by Lutheran World Relief, has trained more than 9,100 cacao producers in Ecuador, strengthening productivity, market access, and mobilizing more than USD 10.3 million in productive credit.
- SUMARSE Project, focused on labor and economic inclusion, with a projected reach of more than 1,000 direct beneficiaries, over 50 partner companies, and activities across six provinces in Ecuador.
- Paso Seguro Project, which aims to support more than 10,000 people in situations of human mobility through training, psychosocial support, and access to decent employment and self-sufficiency opportunities.
