Disaster relief reaches Nepal. See your love in action!

500 families received hygiene supplies at a distribution in Bidur, Nepal, on September 4.

Disaster relief reaches Nepal. See your love in action!

Fueled by your prayerful support, our team in Nepal always works hard to help families overcome poverty.

But since the massive landslide and flash flood on August 26, they’ve been working day and night to provide relief to families affected by the disaster.

Homes, farms and businesses are buried under deep mud after the August 26 flood.

This tragedy killed more than 1,000 people, and more than 4,400 remain missing. Bridges, power sources and other critical infrastructure were destroyed, and some estimates say more than 84,000 people are affected by the damage and loss.

Immediately after the flood swept through, compassionate supporters like you banded together to mount an emergency response.

Meanwhile, our Humanitarian Action and Nepal teams began coordinating with local government officials to ensure our relief efforts are meeting the most important needs

Recovery will take time and happen in phases, and we are so grateful for the partnership of caring congregations and individuals like you to make it happen!

This is what your love in action looks like so far:

On September 4, Lutheran World Relief staff assembled and distributed essential supplies for families who lost their homes in the hard-hit Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts.

This distribution included hygiene supplies for 500 families and clothing for 1,500 people

Each package of hygiene supplies included 20 different items, including soap, towels, toothbrushes and toothpaste, combs, a clothesline and clothespins, menstrual supplies, a flashlight and more.

LWR senior program director Dr. Hira Dhar Chudali hands out hygiene supplies and clothing to families in the Bidur area.

Clean water is an immense need for families in the flood zones. For these families, your love also looks like two 5,000-liter water tanks with pipes and taps that will be delivered in early September to communities in great need.

In collaboration with local agencies, LWR also identified a need for sturdy temporary shelter for families who lost their homes. This is likely to be heavy-duty tents that can protect families from freezing temperatures, rain, snow and high winds as cooler seasons approach.

And this is just the beginning of your impact in Nepal

LWR continues to coordinate closely with local government officials to ensure that the emergency supplies we provide align with the broader relief effort — and that they reach the families who need them most.

Thanks to your prayerful support, this response will develop as we learn more and the needs evolve.
