You’ve probably seen the video footage from August 26: a massive flood, caused by a collapsed glacier and the resulting landslide, crashed across the northern border of Nepal and left a terrible wake of destruction.
It was a shocking event to witness on our screens. But as people of faith, we cannot look away when our neighbors are suffering.
How your kindness is helping in Nepal
As search and rescue efforts continue, our Humanitarian Action team — along with our local staff in Nepal — took quick action to launch a response.
Tamara Demuria, LWR’s Chief Humanitarian Officers, coordinates with LWR staff, local government officials and partners in Bidur, Nepal.
These teams are working day and night to coordinate with the local government and our trusted partners to ensure aid reaches those who need it most — particularly families who have been cut off from critical resources due to flooding.
We don’t yet know the extent of the loss and damage. We do know that more than 10,000 households have been displaced by this disaster and need urgent support.

Lutheran World Relief in Nepal: Your love is there
Thanks to the partnership of caring people like you, Lutheran World Relief has worked in Nepal since 2009 — responding to emergencies (including earthquakes in 2023 and in 2015), helping communities prepare for disaster and equipping families to increase their incomes.
By acting in faith to love your neighbors, your prayerful support ensures we are ready to help whenever and wherever disaster strikes.
