Last July, devastating flash floods swept through the Texas hill country, killing more than 130 people and creating widespread devastation. Your compassion brought relief to affected families within 12 hours, ultimately helping more than 2,600 people with essential supplies and more than 1,000 with cash support.
Now the nightmare is repeating:
- A year's worth of rain fell in parts of Texas this week, causing flash floods across the same region that is still reeling from last year's flooding.
- On July 16, the Guadalupe River rose by more than 30 feet in just three hours. The rushing water washed away homes, cars and anything in its path.
- At least two people have died, and hundreds of emergency rescues have been conducted.
This is a heartbreaking disaster for families who have already endured so much. As followers of Christ, we know that when our neighbors suffer, our faith calls us to respond with compassion.
Your compassionate response is already underway
Our Humanitarian Action team has been working day and night to coordinate our response. We are moving quickly to reach the families who need your help most, and we need your help!
At this time, we know that our response will include:
- Providing cash cards so that families can purchase urgently needed food, water, transportation, diapers — whatever they need to keep going.
- Distributing Lutheran World Relief Quilts & Kits for comfort and practical support. We will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.
You can rush help to neighbors in need!
Your gift does more than send relief. You remind survivors that they are seen, loved and cared for as neighbors.
Thank you for being the hands and feet of Christ in a hurting world.
