Hurricane Melissa touched down in Jamaica on Tuesday, October 28 — the first time the island nation has ever experienced a Category 5 hurricane. The devastation of this “storm of the century” has spread throughout the Caribbean, including Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
As our neighbors in Melissa’s path endure this terrible storm and its aftermath, they need all the prayers and support we can give them. They need caring people like you to wrap them in kindness and compassion today, tomorrow and in the months to come.
Hurricane Melissa is hurting the poorest families
As our team assesses the full impact of Hurricane Melissa, we are praying fervently for our neighbors’ safety and survival. This is a deadly disaster, made worse by the extreme poverty that already exists.
Thousands of people on these islands already live in fragile homes and in informal settlements. These families are not prepared to endure 175+ mph winds, flash flooding, and the extreme hardships that come after such a disaster.
We know there will be an immense need for food, clean water, emergency shelter, essential supplies and more — and we are already preparing to take quick action to help as soon as it is safe.
HELP FAMILIES IN MELISSA'S PATH
