Attention, Kit Makers! New requirements for Baby Care Kits begin in 2026

Attention, Kit Makers! New requirements for Baby Care Kits begin in 2026

Listen to this story

Starting January 1, 2026, Baby Care Kits must include only new and/or handmade items.

We realize this is a shift from how groups and individuals have put Baby Care Kits together in the past, so we have prepared a list of frequently asked questions and a video message from our Quilt & Kit Ministry team.

Why the change?

We appreciate all the work you put into your kits. However, when customs officials find stained, unhemmed or worn items, it can lead to substantial fines and shipment delays. This impacts our ability to deliver kits. The new requirement ensures every kit is a gift of true quality.

What does this mean for you?

Effective January 1, 2026, all Baby Care Kits must meet the new criteria. However, kits that have already been packed with previously accepted items will be accepted until December 31, 2025.

Handmade items are still welcome! Your beautiful, handcrafted contributions are more valued than ever. We even have updated patterns available to inspire your creativity at lwr.org/patterns

The only exceptions to the "new" rule are items that look new, have no stains and show no signs of wear or tear. Socks must be brand-new.

Questions? We have answers!

We know you might have questions, so we've compiled a comprehensive FAQ section covering topics like "What defines 'pristine'?" and "How can my group afford new items?" Find them at lwr.org/bckfaqs

We’ve also created cost-saving ideas. Find them at lwr.org/savings

THANK YOU!

We are so grateful for your faithful dedication and generosity. While we anticipate a potential decrease in kit quantity, we prioritize quality to ensure every Baby Care Kit is truly a gift to your neighbors when they need it most.

Because of you, LWR Baby Care Kits continue to deliver their full promise of love and vital support.

Until your love reaches
every neighbor.
