Imagine the unspeakable heartbreak of learning your child has cancer. Then imagine that your best option for treatment is in the middle of a war zone. Your child seems to be responding well, and hope begins to grow in your heart once more. But then missiles strike the hospital, killing and injuring dozens. It’s more than a person is built to endure.
For our neighbors in Ukraine, this nightmare is unfortunately too real. In July, Okhmatdyt Hospital, one of Ukraine’s largest pediatric oncology facilities, was attacked, pushing broken families to the edge.
Mere hours after the attack, your love arrived on the scene. Your steadfast compassion delivered LWR Quilts and Kits and hygiene kits to support patients and staff dealing with fatalities, injuries, psychological trauma and infrastructure destruction.
But your love doesn’t just stay for the short term. Your caring hearts remain with our neighbors as long as their pain continues, walking with them until they are strong enough to walk on their own.
Your caring hearts filled a gaping hole that had been missing since the attacks. LWR’s Chief Humanitarian Officer Tamara Demuria was onsite to present the hospital with tangible reminders of your continued love, including medical supplies and portable ultrasound machines. The hospital, used as a regional referral for many complicated cases, will now be able to better serve patients and re-establish some of the most critical services.
Your love is enduring and your difference long-standing. Thank you for all your support for our neighbors in Ukraine.
