GIVE TODAY

Hunger is as old as the world itself. It was a problem in Jesus' time, and it is still a big problem today. According to the United Nations World Food Programme, more than 811 million people around the world don’t have enough food to eat.

Even more startling, the world produces enough food to feed every, single human on the planet. Why, then, do so many of our neighbors around the world still go hungry?

Here are three factors driving global hunger – and how you can help.

Conflict

Conflict is the #1 driver of hunger around the world. In regions where there is frequent or prolonged conflict, families often have to flee their homes, leaving everything they have – including their means of earning money – behind. Strangers in a new land with no money and no livelihood, these families struggle to feed themselves and starvation is a persistent threat.

Your love reaches families in conflict zones and saves them from hunger.

With your compassion, families who have fled to refugee and displacement camps receive food and get help to earn money so that they do not flee conflict only to find hunger.

Extreme weather

It's no secret that extreme weather events like hurricanes, typhoons and droughts have a deadly impact on the world’s poorest communities.

Events like hurricanes and typhoons bring too much water, claiming lives but also washing away the farming fields of families who depend on their land for survival. Droughts bring too little water, drying up fields, withering crops, and driving families even deeper into hunger and poverty.

Your love reaches the world’s poorest families dealing with extreme weather and helps them cope.

With your gifts, you provide more than just food. You teach families how to farm in arid conditions. You provide alternate sources of income for families living in flood-prone communities. And, yes, you provide emergency food for the disasters we cannot predict.

The COVID-19 pandemic

According to the World Food Programme, the COVID-19 pandemic has more than doubled the number of hungry people worldwide. It has interrupted food supply chains, access to aid and severely impacted families’ ability to grow or buy food. Put together, these factors threaten to push 20 countries into famine.

Your love reaches families, even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our staff in more than 35 countries around the world have been working hard to share your love with neighbors in crisis during the pandemic – but our resources are stretched to the maximum. With more needs than ever, your gifts are essential to keep reaching hungry families and saving lives.
