August is National Make a Will Month. Making a will is the perfect way to ensure the people and causes you love are cared for long into the future. Read on to learn how your will can make a lifesaving difference for neighbors in need around the world.
Aisata Dicko lives in Senou Camp, on the southern edge of Bamako, Mali's capital city with more than 230 families. She fled here the day armed rebels attacked her village, forever changing her family's life.
"They killed so many ... and then took our cows," she said. "They killed four children. One was my 13-year-old son ... so we grabbed our small children and ran."
She mourns losing a son, and the pride of thriving self-sufficiently on her small farm. Now, Aisata and her family live on donations. Sometimes her neighbors are able to help with small scraps of food, but she knows they her children aren't getting the nutrients they need to grow strong.
Let your love flourish
While the road ahead for Aisata is not easy, she feels the warmth of God's love because of compassionate people like you. We are working in Mali to help families like Aisata's to have access to food, clean water, health care, sources of income and quality of life. This work isn't fast, but your gifts allow us to continue walking with neighbors in need for years, ensuring they have a sustainable path to well-being. That's why we rely on gifts in wills to keep this work going strong, year after year, decade after decade, so that we can continue to meet the needs of our neighbors around the world.
