2021 Hunger Challenge: Our most urgent challenge yet

You could see the fear in her eyes as she placed her dying baby boy into the nurse’s arms.

Unable to eat, his eyes sunken in his skull, Teer Majak Mun was near death from starvation. His skin yellowed, and he had begun suffering from convulsions. There wasn’t a moment to spare. Thankfully, your previous support helped to build a nutrition stabilization center in South Sudan.

Otherwise, Teer’s desperate mother would be placing her baby into a grave.

Hunger has worsened during the pandemic

Teer and his mother live in one of the hardest to reach areas in South Sudan, where ongoing civil war has forced hundreds of thousands of families to flee their homes. The past year, survival has become even harder because of COVID-19. Beyond the terrible impact on health, the pandemic is pushing South Sudan’s fragile economy to near collapse. There is no way for these neighbors to earn income. There is not enough food. Mothers are having to watch their children die from hunger.

Through your generosity, Lutheran World Relief operates the only health centers in the region where Teer’s family lives. Teer was extremely fortunate to receive lifesaving medical treatment, medications and nutrient-rich formula just in time. Your love saved his life.

But with famine knocking on South Sudan’s door, for every Teer we treat, there’s another starving child out of reach.

Help starving children today

Your gift today to our 2021 Hunger Challenge can save these children’s lives.

Your love will provide a nourishing paste, similar to peanut butter, that helps treat severe malnutrition in young children. You’ll also provide antibiotics and deworming medications so their little bodies can fight infections. For children who are not as sick as Teer but are still at great risk, your love can give them highly fortified food supplements to prevent severe malnutrition and even death.

We can only save babies like Teer with your ongoing love — and your generous gift to our 2021 Hunger Challenge to Save Lives.

Your gift by March 15 will help us reach our goal of $250,000 and reach children before they die from starvation.

Until your love reaches every neighbor.
