Photo Friday: Distributing food and supplies to Kenya flood victims

In May 2018, flooding from torrential rains displaced over a quarter million people in eastern Kenya, forcing many to live in temporary camps with limited access to food and emergency supplies.

This week, LWR and our local partner distributed food and supplies to families affected by the floods, including rice, flour, cooking oil, water treatment detergent, mosquito nets and sanitary kits. LWR-Kenya staff reported, "This is the first time the households received food rations to last them a month. it was a happy moment for them."

Lutheran World Relief is responding to the immediate needs of families now living in temporary camps in Tana River County, which currently hosts about 3,000 families. In collaboration with the Pastoralist Girls’ Initiative (PGI), a local non-governmental organization, Lutheran World Relief is providing food and emergency supplies, including water purification tablets and material to construct temporary shelter.
