Win a Trip to Nicaragua with Equal Exchange

Since 1996, U.S. Lutherans have been helping coffee and cocoa farmers increase their ability to provide for their families through the support of LWR Fair Trade.
In honor of this milestone and courtesy of LWR’s Fair Trade partner, Equal Exchange, and its interfaith partner, the Unitarian Universalist College of Social Justice, a complimentary seat is being offered to an LWR Fair Trade Leader on the upcoming delegation trip to Nicaragua from February 18 – 25, 2017*.

Delegation participants will experience first-hand the power of Fair Trade to improve the lives of producers and will stay with and learn from members of an Equal Exchange coffee cooperative, as well as assist with harvest or coffee planting. Participants will also visit an indigenous community that is organizing against mining companies that threaten the sacred Yaoska River basin and learn ways that they are supported by their faith.

Lutheran World Relief thanks all Fair Trade Leaders for supporting its mission of ending poverty, injustice, and human suffering worldwide through LWR Fair Trade.

An LWR Fair Trade Leader will be selected to join the delegation. All interested leaders must complete the Winter Delegation Trip Application no later than Friday, October 7, 2016 to be considered to join the trip.  Visit: https://uucsj.org/journeys/nicaragua/ for specific travel information.

*Please note that as of January 28, 2016, Zika Virus has been documented in Nicaragua. Generally the CDC simply recommends that people take precautions to avoid mosquito bites; and even those who become infected generally experience a very mild illness. However, because Zika has been linked to severe birth defects if pregnant women become infected, if you are pregnant or hoping to become pregnant in the coming year, you should not plan to join this program.
