Situation Report No. 1: Earthquakes in Jajarkot-Rukum, Nepal

On November 3, 2023, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck Jajarkot District in western Nepal with a 5.8 magnitude aftershock hitting the same area again on November 6. In addition to Jajarkot, Rukum West District was also heavily affected. Lutheran World Relief has joined forces with other peer NGOs, government representatives, local partners and staff in the affected communities to assess the ongoing needs and vulnerability of the population impacted by the earthquake. Based on the rapid results available to date, Lutheran World Relief has launched distributions of NFIs for winterization, like tarps and blankets, water jars and mattresses for at least 400 families in both Jajarkot and Rukum West Districts. Through its extensive network of local civil society organizations, Lutheran World Relief continues to monitor the situation and adjust the response within available resources, coordinating the targeting and outreach with other stakeholders.
