LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF (LWR) began working in India in the 1950s, sending relief supplies to address the needs of those affected by famine and disease. LWR’s work has evolved significantly over the decades to focus on longterm development needs. LWR’s approach in India focuses on breaking the cycle of poverty for the most marginalized populations, including tribals, women and Dalits1, through programs in agriculture and food security, climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, and emergency response. LWR currently works in the states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
