South Sudan

In South Sudan, where a severe food crisis fueled by severe drought and deadly civil war has left the country on the brink of famine, Lutheran World Relief is providing critical aid to families, and especially infants and young children who are so severely malnourished that they are at risk of starvation.

The conditions in South Sudan are exacerbated by extreme poverty, weak infrastructure and lack of access to basic services, including health care. Lutheran World Relief is supporting emergency treatment centers in extremely poor areas of the country where there are no other medical facilities. We are also supporting South Sudanese refugees who have fled to neighboring countries in search of safe haven.
