Nepal
Nepal is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world. Little Aspara, 11, knows this firsthand. One of eight children, she has seen the strife and struggle wear on her parents. Powerful floods, caused by increased erosion, regularly destroy their crops. It forces her siblings to flee their simply constructed house, and she wonders how long they can survive each time the rains begin.
“All I want to do is make sure my children get enough food and care,” her father pleads.
Thrivent Choice Dollars® can help people like Aspara and her family. They train families in early warning systems, emergency rescues and flood resilience. Türkiye
As the deadly earthquake reduced their home to rubble, Emrah and Alev and their four young children were running for their lives, nothing with them but the clothes on their backs. Like thousands of families affected by this tragedy, they had no access to food or water. And no place to live. The trauma they experienced is having lasting effects on their children’s well-being.
Their son shocked them when he recently said, “Mom, I want to go to sleep, but I don’t want to wake up anymore.”

Tanzania
Shaida is a loving mother in Tanzania who worries about her 2-year-old daughter, Zuhura. She is right to do so. Shaida feels helpless and heartbroken and fears the same fate awaits her youngest.
Regarding Fatuma, Shaida says, “She can’t do anything but help with housework.” Fatuma sits off in the corner, face down.
