Dr. George Hanna brings 12 years of senior-level management experience leading integrated Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health/Family Planning/Reproductive Health (MNCH/FP/RH) service delivery projects in fragile settings, including in Yemen, Afghanistan and South Sudan. Over the course of a 30-year career that began as an Ob/Gyn in Egypt, Dr. Hanna has built international credibility as an MNCH/FP/RH leader in fragile settings.
Most recently, Dr. Hanna served as chief of party for the $66.3 million USAID/Afghanistan-funded HEMAYAT urban MNCH/FP project, where he redesigned technical service delivery and mentorship approaches that resulted in improved day of birth-related quality of care indicators.
As chief of party for the $25M USAID MCHIP/Yemen project (2013-2015), he integrated nutrition components into the MCH service package and oversaw the design and implementation of two national Trials of Improved Practices studies on nutrition and LARC. Dr. Hanna has led multi-sectoral programming and worked closely with humanitarian actors in Afghanistan and South Sudan.
Dr. Hanna earned a MBBch degree from Benha University (Egypt) and a Master of Science in Obstetrics Gynecology from Ain Shams University (Egypt).
