In places where families face hunger, animals are like insurance policies

Around the world, but especially in places where drought and food shortages drive families to the brink of hunger, livestock help families overcome more of life’s herdles … we mean hurdles.

Giving an animal is like giving a safety net because an animal provides a source of food and income, which is especially valuable during hard times. Giving a family an entire of herd of animals — including goats, sheep, pigs and hens — extends that safety net, helping a family to launch a small livestock business.

Make your compassion herd!

On Giving Tuesday, December 3, we are asking you to join together with us to raise 100 herds for families in need. You can make your compassion herd by doing one of two things:

  • Give an entire herd. A gift of $530 provides a herd of 13 animals: two goats, two sheep, two piglets, one hen and six chicks, or…
  • Contribute one (or two, or three…) individual animal gifts. You can also give individual animals that will come together with the gifts of others to form herds that lift families out of poverty!

What animals are available to give?

In addition to giving an entire Herd of 13 animals, you can give individual animals* to help meet our big goal:

"So what do I do next?"

Make your compassion HERD! Here's how:

  1. Stampede over to our special Giving Tuesday campaign where you can make your secure donation. (IMPORTANT: You must give through that link for your gift to be included in our goal of 100 Herds!)
  2. Choose the gift that's right for you. Remember, you can give an entire herd or individual animals - every gift counts!
  3. Spread the word that you’re making your compassion herd! It’s going to take many generous hearts to reach our goal. Share this page (lwr.org/compassionherd) on social media and let folks know you plan to participate.

Each animal included in this campaign is included in the LWR Gifts online catalog. Each Gift is part of actual Lutheran World Relief and IMA World Health programming. The dollar amounts listed for each Gift represent the cost of providing the items and support services or training. Each Gift you make is symbolic and represents a contribution to the entire mission of LWR and IMA, to be used where the need is greatest. No matter which Gift you choose, your donation supports our life-changing mission to end poverty, injustice and human suffering, and as such is tax-deductible.
