Meet Agnes Munyukwa, Grape Farmer

Grape grower Agnes Munyukwa was the first in her village to begin adopting new grape growing techniques she learned from Lutheran World Relief. She started using a deep plowing method between the rows of vines to help retain the moisture in the soil, and also grows peanuts within her eleven-row vineyard to improve soil fertility.

Her next goal is to replace the horizontal supports on her trestles — currently made from sticks that need replacement after just one or two years — with heavy-gauge wire that will last much longer. These changes to her grape growing techniques put Agnes on a path to increased grape yields and improved fruit quality, leading to a better life for her and her family.
