ACTION ALERT 8/9/2007

Dear friends,

Right now, there is a unique opportunity to take action for the situation in northern Uganda. The August Congressional recess isn't summer vacation for our politicians; it's their chance to hear what's on the minds of their constituents. And it's your chance to make sure their priorities reflect your concerns.

With ongoing peace talks aimed at ending the war in northern Uganda moving closer to success, and legislation before Congress that would cut off U.S. military assistance to countries who use children as soldiers, the timing could not be better to let our leaders know that we expect them to take action.

TAKE ACTION
During the week of August 13-17, Lutheran World Relief urges you to visit one of your local U.S. Congressional offices, carrying a message of hope and a demand for action in Uganda. Ask your representatives to support:

  1. A peaceful resolution of the war in Uganda, and
  2. An end to the use of child soldiers.

Visit Lutheran World Relief’s advocacy partner Resolve Uganda by clicking here and set up a meeting with your state representatives.

By speaking with your representatives in Congress and meeting them face-to-face, you can send the message that you're keeping tabs on what they're doing (or not doing!) for peace in northern Uganda. Together, we can show that the real power for change lies within each of our commitment to act for peace and justice.

THANK YOU!
Your prayers are important, and your messages to Congress are heard.  Thank you for taking the time to be a part of this opportunity for northern Uganda!
