AID THE PEOPLE
OF SUDAN

By participating in the Tents of Hope campaign, you are creating awareness of the conflicts and challenges in Sudan through advocacy and education. The Tents of Hope campaign is seeking financial support for its partners including Lutheran World Relief.

For decades war has changed the lives of the people of Sudan. Since 2003 over 2.5 million people of the western most region of Darfur, Sudan, have permanently left their homes and approximately 200,000 of them have been killed. During the 22 year conflict between the north and south of Sudan over 2 million people were killed and 4 million displaced. Although the fighting has ended in the North/South conflict thousands have yet to return home and start their lives again.
Lutheran World Relief and partners have long standing experience working in Sudan and continue assisting the internally displaced and those finally returning home by:
- Providing access to water points and latrines; training communities to manage the infrastructure on their own.
- Operating health clinics and supplemental nutrition programs with a focus on preventative healthcare.
- Training community organizations and leaders in peace-building and conflict resolution.
- Providing agricultural training and distribution of seeds and tools.
- Constructing or rehabilitating schools, providing school supplies and training for administrators and parent-teacher associations.
