The Marian Stegemoeller Memorial Scholarships for Seminary Students 2008
A generous LWR donor has provided funding to enable seminarians to participate in LWR Study Tours. In 2009, three scholarships are being awarded, one for each of the following trips:
NICARAGUA: Pour Justice to the Brim
January 5 – 12, 2009
COLOMBIA: Peace is Possible
February 10 – 22, 2009
EL SALVADOR: Women of the ELCA Trip
(Applicant needs to be a woman seminarian affiliated with the ELCA)
March 28 – April 3, 2009
CRITERIA
To be eligible for this scholarship, seminarians must meet the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled in seminary with plans to serve in an ELCA or LCMS ministry in the U.S.
- Able to demonstrate a commitment to global issues such as peace and justice in response to the application essay questions.
- Able to secure a passport and finance personal health precautions (vaccinations, malaria pills, etc.).
- Able to manage physical activity such as walking up steep hills.
- Able to negotiate one’s academic schedule to allow time to participate in the trip.
- Able to commit to the trip at the time of award notification.
EXPECTATIONS
All participants of LWR Study Tours are asked to continue their journey upon return home with a commitment to support the vision and mission of LWR, including:
- Serving as an LWR Ambassador.
- Writing an article for the home seminary newsletter.
- Providing LWR with a letter of thanks to the scholarship donor.
- Making at least one presentation on the LWR Study Tour to the home seminary community.
- Educating and advocating on behalf of the people met on the LWR Study Tour.
