Irene Nanjekhe has become an expert in coffee farming and is trained as a Community Knowledge Worker (CKW) with Gumutindo Coffee Cooperative in Uganda. Here, she examines coffee seedlings in the cooperative’s nursery. The healthy seedlings will eventually be distributed to member coffee farmers. In her role as a CKW, Irene visits four to six farmers a day providing answers to questions like “What buyer is providing the best pricing?”, “What is the best way to prune my coffee trees?”, “How do I fertilize my trees without using chemicals?” This is all important information that helps farmers improve their coffee yields and coffee bean quality, as well as to get the best price for their crops. Thank you for investing in community owned approaches to problem solving that will last long after our projects end.
