For the people of East Africa the hour is indeed very late. The worst drought in 60 years is creating severe food and water shortages for millions of impoverished people in the Horn of Africa. Combined with ongoing conflict in many countries, the region is facing an urgent, life-threatening humanitarian crisis.

Lutheran World Relief is responding and your congregation can join us on the front lines of this continuing emergency. Take up the Feeding 5,000 Challenge as we all follow the example of Christ by bringing relief to the multitudes in a deserted place.

To feed 5,000 people in East Africa for a day costs about $4,150. That’s less than $1 per person. But more amazing is this: the cost of that meal, invested in LWR’s long-term, sustainable response, can provide so much more. Consider this:

$15 provides fresh, clean baby care items to a new mother living in a refugee camp
$25 provides a month’s food supply to one person
$150 feeds a family of six for a month
$335 provides tools to 12 farmers to replant crops and recover from the drought

LWR offers resources to support your congregation taking on the Feeding 5,000 Challenge.
