In Palestine, age old conflicts have left deep scars, especially for Palestinian women and youth struggling toward better futures. Poverty, unemployment, lack of education and many other factors stand as roadblocks to their success. They very much want to learn, earn income and realize a peaceful future, but reaching those goals requires a significant investment in fighting their poverty and disenfranchisement.
Lutheran World Relief supports Vocational Training Programs in both the West Bank and Gaza, which provide skills training to unemployed women and youth.
The training programs give marginalized people the opportunity to learn a trade that will increase their chances at getting a job and earning a steady income. The programs offer training in a number of trades, such as auto mechanics, telecommunications, carpentry and secretarial skills. Upon completion of the vocational programs, the graduates are connected to the job market.
But that’s not all. The programs also provide training on subjects like human rights, democracy, civil rights and gender issues. Trainings on tolerance and peace building help to decrease violence among youth.
By equipping and empowering Palestinian communities and making them aware of their rights and responsibilities under the law and to one another, the programs are helping them find their voices so that they, too, may contribute to building a better Palestine.
Your gifts help promote peace and lasting promise in Palestine.
