Kuapa Kokoo

Kuapa Kokoo is a democratically operated, Fair Trade Certified™ cooperative of cocoa farmers in Ghana, West Africa, where much of the world’s cocoa comes from. In Twi, the local language, Kuapa Kokoo means “Good Cocoa Farmers Company”.

As Fair Trade participants, Kuapa Kokoo’s 45,000 members use environmentally responsible farming techniques and oppose child labor. They receive a fair price on their cocoa beans and spread the wealth by investing in their communities. By doing so, they set a good example — and are a source of knowledge — for other farmers.

Kuapa Kokoo is part owner of Divine, making it the first ever farmer-owned brand of chocolate. They invest a share of the chocolate profits in community projects such as:

  • Building wells
  • Funding schools
  • Providing mobile medical clinics

Did we mention that the chocolate is scrumptious, too? Their motto, “Pa Pa Paa,” means “the best of the best.”
