Providing The Chance to Earn Income. Changing Lives.

Half of the people on the planet live on less than $2 a day. On so little income, buying clothes, school supplies or medicine is out of the question. Parents live with a constant pit in their stomachs, worrying whether they can feed their children. And children must work to help support their family rather than going to school.

It’s frustrating how many people struggling this way actually have the skills to create beautiful items that people would love to buy. They just don’t have the resources to market these items to people who can pay a good price for them.

This is why our Fair Trade partner, SERRV, contracts with disadvantaged artisans, pays them a fair price and sells their beautiful creations to you.

Through Fair Trade, SERRV helps disadvantaged artisans:

  • Earn income in a sustainable way that preserves their culture;
  • Support their families using locally-available materials;
  • Develop new skills and literacy — knowledge mothers can pass on to their children;
  • Invest in equipment and training to improve their businesses; and
  • Access basic health care, so that they stay healthier and can be more productive.

As Fair Trade participants, many artisan associations invest a portion of their profits in development projects for their community as a whole, such as:

  • Building safe water wells;
  • Funding elementary schools;
  • Promoting women’s rights; and
  • Sponsoring public health education.
