Dr. David Lose Elected to Lutheran World Relief Board of Directors

Baltimore, February 14, 2014 – At its annual meeting January 28-29, Lutheran World Relief’s board of directors elected Dr. David Lose, Marbury Anderson Chair in Biblical Preaching and director of the Center for Biblical Preaching at Luther Seminary, to a three-year board term.

Lose, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., also holds master of divinity and master of sacred theology degrees from The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. He earned his doctorate in homiletics from Princeton Theological Seminary. Ordained in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) in 1993, Lose served three ELCA congregations in New Jersey between 1993 and 2000.

Lose is the author of the books Making Sense of Scripture and Confessing Jesus Christ: Preaching in a Postmodern World. A popular speaker, Lose has lectured and led workshops throughout the country and internationally.

“We’re delighted that Dr. Lose has joined the LWR board,” said Jeff Whisenant, LWR’s interim president and CEO. “He is a nationally recognized speaker who can help raise attention on LWR’s mission of a world without poverty, injustice and human suffering.”

Dr. Gloria Edwards, chair of the board, added, “The board of Lutheran World Relief welcomes its newest member, Dr. David Lose. His insight, experience and influence will enhance our work together. It's about sustainable development and lasting promise."

The board also elected officers for 2014. Edwards will continue as chair; Jay Hines-Shah as vice chair, and Jonathan Schultz as secretary.
