Cacao Farming Enterprise Advancement for Sustainability and Trade

The proposed project, Cacao Farming Enterprise Advancement for Sustainability and Trade progress (Cacao FEAST) builds on the gains and successes of LWR’s previous Mindanao Cacao Agroforestry for Resiliency and Sustainability (MinCARES) Project, which was originally aimed at assisting 930 families affected by typhoon Bopha in 2012 regain their source of livelihood. MinCARES was implemented for a period of nine months, covering the period January to September 2014.

The Cacao FEAST is aimed at scaling up the MinCARES and replicating best practices learned from the previous project. It will put greater emphasis on improving the sustainability of cacao enterprise of smallholder farmers from the MinCARES and expanding its reach to other smallholder cacao farmers in other selected areas of Davao Region.

Objectives

  • Cacao farmers harvest higher yield crops.
  • Farmers improve their business acumen, with increased technical knowledge about growing cacao plants.
  • Farmers organize into “collective” ventures to maximize knowledge sharing and marketing principles.
