FROM THE FIELD:
Peru
Words of thanks from a Peruvian child
In 2004, thousands of quilts and school kits were sent to Lutheran World Relief's partner organization, Caritas del Peru. The quilts and kits were distributed at hospitals, rest centers, churches, and schools throughout the country. Shown here is a thank you card written by one of the students who received a school kit filled with notebooks, scissors, a ruler, pencil sharpener, pencils, eraser, construction paper, and crayons.
A Card of Thanks
Thank you, Sir, for the gift I received today on Wednesday, March 19, 2004. I will use it in my studies.

As many of the people living in the poor rural communities of Peru are illiterate, few were able to sign their names to receive the quilts and school kits. Instead, fingerprinting was used to identify the beneficiaries. Hopefully, after receiving their school kits, the children of these families will learn to read and write now that they have the proper tools. In turn, they will be able to provide a better way of life for their families.
