Michael Meenan Named Lutheran World Relief Vice President for Finance and Administration

Baltimore, March 6, 2009Lutheran World Relief is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Meenan as its next Vice President for Finance and Administration. Meenan will begin work on March 8.

Meenan replaces Laura Morales, who has served as Acting Vice President.  Laura will return to her prior role as Director for Finance.

Meenan most recently worked for the American Red Cross, where he served as Senior Director, International Services Finance. Other prior experience includes serving as Overseas Controller for Catholic Relief Services and Assistant Director for Program Finance at The Carter Center of Emory University in Atlanta. He served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Lesotho.

“Michael brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this position, which will be a great benefit to LWR,” said John Nunes, LWR’s President and CEO. “Especially in today’s economic climate it is essential that we continue to practice sound financial management and good stewardship of our resources, and we are excited to have Michael leading us in those areas.”

“I am thrilled to be joining LWR,” Meenan said. “In my career working with humanitarian organizations, I have always admired the work of LWR in assisting those in need throughout the world, and I look forward to joining the team.”

“I want to extend a special thank you to Laura Morales for her leadership of our Finance and Administration department during the search,” Nunes added. “We are blessed with dedicated and talented staff and Laura has done an excellent job of stepping up to lead during this time of transition.”
