Turner regrets knocking Christianity

NEW YORK -- Ted Turner, who once called Christianity a "religion for losers," launched a $200 million partnership Tuesday with Lutherans and Methodists to fight malaria in Africa, apologizing for his past criticism of religion and calling faith a "bright spot" in the world.
Turner, 69, said he had only made a few disparaging comments a long time ago and that he is "always developing" his thinking as he grows older.

Ted Turner to help raise millions to fight malaria in Africa

Ted Turner is working with Lutheran and United Methodist organizations to raise $200 million to fight malaria in Africa, the CNN founder announced Tuesday.
The effort will unite Turner's United Nations Foundation the People of the United Methodist Church and Lutheran World Relief to fight the disease, according to a release posted on the foundation's Web site.

Lutherans purchase 'eco-palms' for upcoming Palm Sunday

More than 300 million palm fronds are harvested each year for consumption in the United States, mostly for Palm Sunday worship and floral displays for churchrelated events, according to Lutheran World Relief. But the overproduction of palms threatens forests and the livelihoods of families who harvest palms in Guatemala, Mexico and other areas, according to the organization.

Response fund in the municipality of Tacobamba, department of Potosí, through its implementing partner
Fundación Intercultural NOR SUD, a non profit, private organization founded in 1992 and focusing on
rural development. During the past three years, Foundation NOR SUD has been working with LWF on
sustainable food diversification for Quechua families in six communities of the municipality of
Tacobamba. The organization counts with experienced agronomists, sociologists and economists.
