ASIA DISASTERS
Emergency Alert - updated November 4, 2009

You can help
our local partners
provide needed assistance.

Background:

As the turbulent 2009 South Asia Typhoon season wears on, the Philippines was hit with yet another severe storm. Typhoon Mirinae hit the island of Luzon early in the morning of October 31, causing more flooding to areas still recovering from the effects of Typhoons Ketsana and Parma which struck on September 26 and October 3 respectively.

Mirinae is the fourth storm to hit the Philippines in just over a month, leaving behind major flooding and sending many families back to evacuation centers they only recently left. In the aftermath of the storm families remain in critical need of shelter, food, and clean water.

Meanwhile, the people of Indonesia continue to recover from the 7.6 magnitude earthquake that claimed hundreds of lives and left thousands missing and homeless.

LWR AND PARTNERS RESPOND TO THE CRISIS

ACT logoLutheran World Relief is responding in both the Philippines and Indonesia through its membership in Action by Churches Together (ACT) International global aid alliance. We are also coordinating with the Lutheran Church of the Philippines to distribute much-needed food and household items.

In Indonesia, LWR is also working with local partners to provide food, supplies and psychological support to more than 1,000 women and children.
