DARFUR, SUDAN

The Janjaweed attacked Adam Mohammed Haroon when he returned to check on his farmland. "I am glad my wife and children are safe," he says, but he fears the future holds more horror for civilians. He received treatment from an ACT/Caritas medical team, which stitched up his wounds. Up to 50,000 people have been killed since the violence broke out in the Darfur region in 2003.
