Long-Term Relief
Help Our Government
Help Haiti
In the aftermath of Haiti’s devastating earthquake, your generous contributions have allowed LWR to bring water, food and shelter to Haitians in need. Your support for immediate relief in Haiti is vital, but at this critical time you also have a unique opportunity to support long-term relief for Haitians who have been crushed by debt and poverty for years. The U.S. Government has an important role to play in providing long-term relief for Haiti and in promoting Haitian-led efforts to establish a vibrant economy and civil society capable of leading Haiti out of poverty. Coupling your financial contributions for relief in Haiti with advocacy actions is the best way to make an impact in Haiti and improve the lives and futures of all Haitians.
Sign up for LWR advocacy alerts and advocate with LWR to help build a stronger Haiti by calling on U.S. policymakers to:
- Support debt cancellation for Haiti
- Invest in rural agriculture systems
- Invest in infrastructure necessary to sustain vibrant rural economies and withstand natural disasters
- Transform U.S. trade policy to better support Haitian farmers
- Ensure that U.S. immigration policy and programs work to protect and unite Haitian families affected by the earthquake
Thank You for Petitioning to Cancel Haiti’s Crushing Debt
Stay tuned for future advocacy actions, including your support to get members of Congress to sponsor legislation for debt relief and reconstruction in Haiti.

Give Thanks:
On January 15 President Obama announced Temporary Protection Status (TPS) for Haitians in the United States. LWR and colleague organizations called on the U.S. Government to grant TPS and LWR applauds the administration’s January 15 decision!
Call the White House at 202-456-1111 and simply thank President Obama for the decision to help protect Haitians through TPS status.
Temporary protected status is granted by the United States (Homeland Security Department) to eligible nationals of countries that cannot safely return to their homelands because of armed conflict, environmental disaster, or other extraordinary and temporary conditions. There are 30,000 Haitians in the U.S. who faced deportation in the wake of the earthquake. Now, many of them will be able to remain safely in the U.S. until conditions improve in their homeland.
